Numismatic issues: a mint set comprising three coins as well as a silver coin dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the establishment of Romania’s Court of Accounts

Pursuant to the provisions of Law 312/2004 on the Statute of the National Bank of Romania, on 10 March 2014, the National Bank of Romania will put into circulation, for numismatic purposes, a mint set comprising three coins (gold, silver and coppered tombac) as well as a silver coin dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the establishment of Romania’s Court of Accounts.

The coins in the set (gold, silver and coppered tombac) have the following technical characteristics:

Obverse of the gold coin: portrait of Prince Alexandru Ioan Cuza, a quote from the Law on the establishment of the Court of Accounts - “O Înaltă Curte de Compturi se institue la Bucuresci pentru tótă România” (“A High Court of Accounts is to be established in Bucharest for the entire Romania”) - the coat of arms of Romania, the face value “100 LEI” and the inscriptions “ROMANIA” and “ALEXANDRU IOAN CUZA” in an arc.

Obverse of the silver coin: portrait of Prince Alexandru Ioan Cuza, a quote from the Law on the establishment of the Court of Accounts - “O Înaltă Curte de Compturi se institue la Bucuresci pentru tótă România” - the coat of arms of Romania, the face value “10 LEI” and the inscriptions “ROMANIA” and “ALEXANDRU IOAN CUZA” in an arc.

Obverse of the coppered tombac coin: portrait of Prince Alexandru Ioan Cuza, a quote from the Law on the establishment of the Court of Accounts - “O Înaltă Curte de Compturi se institue la Bucuresci pentru tótă România” - the coat of arms of Romania, the face value “1 LEU” and the inscriptions “ROMANIA” and “ALEXANDRU IOAN CUZA” in an arc.

Reverse (common to all coins in the set – gold, silver and coppered tombac): a depiction suggesting the 150th anniversary of the establishment of the Court of Accounts: the inscription “150 ANI”, overlapping an excerpt from the Official Journal of 24 January 1864, in which the law on the establishment of the Court of Accounts was published, the logo of the institution and the years “1864” and “2014”.

The silver coin has the same technical characteristics and description as the silver coin included in the mint set.

The gold, silver and coppered tombac coins are individually housed in transparent plastic capsules.

The mint sets and the silver coins are accompanied by leaflets featuring a presentation of the numismatic issue in Romanian, English and French. Each leaflet comes with a certificate of authenticity bearing the signatures of the Governor and the Chief Cashier of the National Bank of Romania.

The mintage of this numismatic issue is:

  • 150 mint sets (gold, silver and coppered tombac coins);
  • 250 silver coins.

Selling prices are:

  • lei 1,780.00, VAT excluded, per mint set comprising three coins (gold, silver and coppered tombac), including the leaflet;
  • lei 300.00, VAT excluded, per silver coin, including the leaflet.

The gold, silver and coppered tombac coins dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the establishment of Romania’s Court of Accounts are legal tender on the territory of Romania.

The mint sets and the silver coins will be put into circulation through the branches of the National Bank of Romania in Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Iaşi and Timişoara.
