European Union regulations are legal acts binding in their entirety and directly applicable in EU Member States, in line with the provisions of Article 288 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union. Therefore, national transposition measures are not required. Member States must however take all the necessary steps to ensure that the regulations are actually applied in their national law. To this end, in 2007 the national coordinating unit for European affairs (currently functioning within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs) initiated a process whereby every institution should be accountable for the implementation of regulations issued in its fields of competence. This process might imply taking certain legislative or administrative measures required for the direct application of the EU regulations.
The EU regulations assumed by the NBR are listed below in the following two categories:
- European Union regulations regarding the primary objective and the main tasks of the NBR.
- European Union regulations applicable to the institutions under the NBR's supervision, which impose or modify restrictive measures/sanctions.
