Numismatic issue: a mint set dedicated to the anniversary of 200 years since the establishment by Gheorghe Asachi of the Engineering School in Iași (currently “Gheorghe Asachi” Technical University in Iași)

Pursuant to the provisions of Law No. 312/2004 on the Statute of the National Bank of Romania, on 11 November 2013, the National Bank of Romania will put into circulation, for numismatic purposes, a mint set dedicated to the anniversary of 200 years since the establishment by Gheorghe Asachi of the Engineering School in Iași (currently “Gheorghe Asachi” Technical University in Iași).

The mint set will comprise the Romanian coins in circulation with face values of ban 1, bani 5, bani 10, bani 50 and commemorative coins with the face value of bani 50 (Aurel Vlaicu, Mircea cel Bătrân and Neagoe Basarab), as well as a silver medal.

The silver medal has the following technical characteristics:

  • Metal: silver;
  • Fineness: 800‰;
  • Shape: round;
  • Diameter: 28 mm;
  • Weight: 15.5 g;
  • Quality: proof;
  • Edge: flat.

Obverse: Gheorghe Asachi’s statue in Iași, the inscriptions “GHEORGHE ASACHI”, “1813” the year of the celebrated event and “200 ANI DE LA INFIINTAREA SCOLII DE INGINERIE DIN IASI” in an arc.

Reverse: the partial representation of “Gheorghe Asachi” hall of the Technical University in Iași, the coat of arms of the university, the inscription “UNIVERSITATEA TEHNICA ‘GHEORGHE ASACHI’ IASI” in an arc and the year of issue “2013”.

The mint set will come in the form of a leaflet housed in a case, with its components inserted in specially-designed slots. The silver medal and the coins in the set are of proof quality.

The mintage of this numismatic issue is 1,000 sets.

The selling price per mint set is lei 230.00 excluding VAT.

The mint set will be put into circulation through the branches of the National Bank of Romania in Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Iaşi and Timişoara.
