The National Bank of Romania will launch, for numismatic purposes, a gold coin dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the great battles fought by the Romanian army at Mărăşti, Mărăşeşti and Oituz

In accordance with the provisions of Law No. 312/2004 - The Statute of the National Bank of Romania, as from 29 October 2007, the National Bank of Romania is to launch, for numismatic purposes, a gold coin dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the great battles fought by the Romanian army at Mărăşti, Mărăşeşti and Oituz.

Characteristics of the gold coin:

  • face value: leu 100;
  • shape: round;
  • fineness: 900/1000;
  • quality: proof;
  • weight: 6.452 g;
  • diameter: 21 mm;
  • edge: milled.

Obverse: the image of the Mărăşeşti Mausoleum, the year of issue "2007" and the face value of "100 LEI"; above, the circular inscription "ROMANIA".

Reverse: a group of Romanian soldiers in the battle at Mărăşti, the year of fighting the battles "1917", and the inscriptions "MARASTI-MARASESTI-OITUZ" and "Pe aici nu se trece!" ("No one shall pass by here!") engraved circularly.

The coins come in transparent plastic capsules, along with leaflets describing the numismatic issue in Romanian, English and French. Each leaflet includes the certificate of authenticity, bearing the signatures of the Governor and the Head Cashier of the National Bank of Romania. The coins will be sold in appropriate cases bearing the NBR logo - BNR - on the lid.

The numismatic issue consists of 250 coins.

The National Bank of Romania branches in Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Iaşi and Timişoara are in charge of putting into circulation, for numismatic purposes, the gold coins dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the great battles fought by the Romanian army at Mărăşti, Mărăşeşti and Oituz.
