NBR's International Reserves in December 2006

At end-December 2006, foreign exchange reserves of the National Bank of Romania amounted to EUR 21,309.6 million. The EUR 84.2 million increase in the month under review was due to the following:
- EUR 509.0 million worth of inflows comprising incomes from international reserve management, change in the foreign-exchange reserve requirements of commercial banks, surrenders to official forex reserves, a.s.o.;
- EUR 424.8 million worth of outflows consisting in principal repayments and interest payments on public and publicly guaranteed external debt, the change in foreign-exchange reserve requirements of commercial banks, bank commissions, a.s.o.
The gold stock stayed at 104.7 tonnes. Following the developments in the world price of gold, its value declined to EUR 1,625.1 million, taking the international reserves of the National Bank of Romania (foreign exchange and gold) to more than EUR 22.93 billion.
In 2007, payments due on public and publicly guaranteed external debt amount to EUR 1,032 million.
