NBR's International Reserves in April 2008

At end-April 2008, foreign exchange reserves of the National Bank of Romania stood at EUR 25,341 million.

The EUR 184 million increase recorded in the reported month was due to the following:

  • EUR 740.98 million worth of inflows representing the change in the foreign-exchange reserve requirements of credit institutions, the funds deposited in the account of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the funds deposited in the account of the European Commission, a.s.o.
  • EUR 556.98 million worth of outflows consisting in principal repayments and interest payments on public and publicly guaranteed external debt, payments to the European Commission, the change in foreign-exchange reserve requirements of credit institutions, a.s.o.

The gold stock remained at 103.7 tonnes. However, following the developments in the world price of gold, its value dropped to EUR 1,859.64 million, taking the international reserves of the National Bank of Romania (foreign currencies and gold) to EUR 27.20 billion.

In May 2008, payments due on public and publicly guaranteed external debt amount to EUR 107.9 million.
