Numismatic issue - silver coin commemorating 150 years since the establishment of the early military institutions in modern-day Romania

Pursuant to the provisions of Law No. 312/2004 on the Statute of the National Bank of Romania, on 28 November 2011, the National Bank of Romania will put into circulation a collector silver coin commemorating 150 years since the establishment of the early military institutions in modern-day Romania.

The silver coin has the following characteristics:

  • face value: lei 10
  • metal: silver
  • fineness: 999‰
  • shape: round
  • diameter: 37 mm
  • weight: 31.103 g
  • quality: proof
  • edge: milled.

Obverse: the portrait of Alexandru Ioan Cuza during his early years in power and his name, the inscription “ROMANIA”, the coat-of-arms of Romania, the face value “10 LEI” and the year of issue “2011”.

Reverse: men serving in the United Principalities’ army, wearing the uniforms of 1861: in the foreground, a General Staff colonel, superposed on an infantry squadron and a cavalry corps; in the background, a military drill site; on the outer ring, the inscription “PRIMELE INSTITUTII MILITARE ALE ROMANIEI MODERNE” in an arc on two rows; in exergue, the year “1861”.

The silver coins are housed in transparent plastic capsules and are accompanied by leaflets featuring a brief presentation of the numismatic issue in Romanian, English and French.

Each leaflet comes with a certificate of authenticity bearing the signatures of the Governor and the Chief Cashier of the National Bank of Romania.

The mintage of this numismatic issue is 500.

The selling price of the silver coin, including the leaflet, is lei 360.00 excluding VAT.

The silver coins in the numismatic issue commemorating 150 years since the establishment of the early military institutions in modern-day Romania are legal tender on the territory of Romania.

The collector silver coins will be put into circulation through the branches of the National Bank of Romania in Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Iaşi and Timişoara.
