Numismatic issue - a gold coin dedicated to Nicolae Iorga: The 140th Birth Anniversary

Pursuant to the provisions of Law No. 312/2004 – The Statute of the National Bank of Romania, on 25 July 2011, the National Bank of Romania will put into circulation, for numismatic purposes, a gold coin dedicated to Nicolae Iorga: The 140th Birth Anniversary.

The gold coin has the following characteristics:

  • Face value: lei 100
  • Metal: gold
  • Fineness: 900‰
  • Shape: round
  • Diameter: 21 mm
  • Weight: 6.452 g
  • Quality: proof
  • Edge: milled.

Obverse: the depiction of an event in the history of Romanians, i.e. Prince Michael the Brave’s arrival in Alba Iulia, overlapping the front cover of a historic paper penned by Nicolae Iorga, the inscription “ROMANIA” in an arc, Romania’s coat of arms, the year of issue “2011” and the face value “100 LEI”.

Reverse: the portrait of Nicolae Iorga and his signature, the inscription “140 DE ANI DE LA NASTERE” in an arc, his birth and death years: “1871” and “1940”, respectively.

Every gold coin, housed in a transparent plastic case, will be accompanied by a leaflet featuring a brief presentation of the numismatic issue in Romanian, English and French. The leaflet comes with a certificate of authenticity bearing the signatures of both the Governor and the Chief Cashier of the National Bank of Romania.

The numismatic issue includes 500 coins.

The selling price of the gold coin, including the leaflet, is lei 1,450.00, excluding VAT.

The gold coins in the “Nicolae Iorga: The 140th Birth Anniversary” numismatic issue are legal tender on the territory of Romania.

The collector gold coins will be put into circulation through the branches of the National Bank of Romania in Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Iaşi and Timişoara.
