Numismatic issue - a gold coin celebrating the anniversary of 135 years since the birth of Queen Marie

Pursuant to the provisions of Law No. 312/2004 – The Statute of the National Bank of Romania, as from 15 November 2010, the National Bank of Romania will put into circulation, for numismatic purposes, a gold coin celebrating the anniversary of 135 years since the birth of Queen Marie.

The gold coin has the following characteristics:

  • face value: lei 100;
  • fineness: 900‰;
  • shape: round;
  • diameter: 21 mm;
  • weight: 6.452 g;
  • quality: proof;
  • edge: milled.

Obverse: from top to bottom, “ROMANIA” inscribed in an arc, the coat of arms of Romania and the face value of “100 LEI”, a medallion depicting Queen Marie; beneath the medallion, along its rim, the inscription “REGINA MARII UNIRI” (Queen of the Grand Union); on the outer ring, a laurel wreath.

Reverse: in the middle, the portrait of Queen Marie wearing her crown at the coronation in Alba Iulia, to the left and to the right, the years “1875” – her birth year and “2010” – the year of issue of the coin; beneath the portrait, “REGINA MARIA A ROMANIEI MARI” (Queen Marie of Greater Romania) inscribed in an arc.

The gold coin, housed in a transparent plastic case, will be accompanied by a leaflet featuring an overview of the numismatic issue in Romanian, English and French. The leaflet comes with a certificate of authenticity bearing the signatures of both the Governor and the Head Cashier of the National Bank of Romania.

The numismatic issue includes 1,000 coins.

The selling price of the gold coin related to the “Anniversary of 135 Years since the Birth of Queen Marie” numismatic issue is lei 1,380.00 per coin, excluding VAT.

The gold coins in this numismatic issue are legal tender on the territory of Romania.

The collector gold coins will be put into circulation through the branches of the National Bank of Romania in Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Iaşi and Timişoara.
