Numismatic issue - a silver coin commemorating the bicentennial anniversary of the birth of August Treboniu Laurian

Pursuant to the provisions of Law No. 312/2004 concerning The Statute of the National Bank of Romania, on 9 August 2010, the National Bank of Romania will put into circulation, for numismatic purposes, a silver coin commemorating the bicentennial anniversary of the birth of August Treboniu Laurian.

The silver coin has the following characteristics:

  • face value: leu 10;
  • fineness: 999‰;
  • shape: round;
  • diameter: 37 mm;
  • weight: 31.103 g;
  • quality: proof;
  • edge: milled;
  • coinage: 1,000.

Obverse: from top to bottom, the depiction of Lupa capitolina – a symbol of the Latinity of the Romanian people and the Romanian language –, the coat of arms of Romania, the inscription “ROMANIA”, the face value “10 LEI”.

Reverse: in the foreground, the portrait of philologist and historian August Treboniu Laurian; in the background, to the right, a fragment of the cover of “Magazin istoric pentru Dacia” magazine; below, the years “1810” and “1881”; on the outside ring, “AUGUST TREBONIU LAURIAN“ inscribed circularly.

The selling price for the collector coin commemorating the bicentennial anniversary of the birth of August Treboniu Laurian is leu 215, excluding VAT.

Each coin is housed in a transparent plastic capsule and is accompanied by a leaflet featuring an overview of the numismatic issue in Romanian, English and French. The leaflet comes with a certificate of authenticity bearing the signatures of both the Governor and the Head Cashier of the National Bank of Romania.

The silver coins commemorating the bicentennial anniversary of the birth of August Treboniu Laurian are legal tender on the territory of Romania.

The collector coins will be put into circulation through the branches of the National Bank of Romania in Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Iaşi and Timişoara.
