Numismatic issue - a silver coin commemorating the 300th anniversary of the birth of Bishop Petru Pavel Aron

Pursuant to the provisions of Law No. 312/2004 – The Statute of the National Bank of Romania, as from 16 December 2009, the National Bank of Romania is to put into circulation for numismatic purposes, a silver coin commemorating the 300th anniversary of the birth of Bishop Petru Pavel Aron.

The silver coin has the following characteristics:

  • face value: leu 10;
  • shape: round;
  • Diameter: 37 mm;
  • metal: silver;
  • purity: 999‰;
  • weight: 31.103 g;
  • quality: proof;
  • edge: milled.

Obverse: the “Holy Trinity” Cathedral in Blaj, flanked by the buildings of the theological seminary and of the community school founded by Petru Pavel Aron, the inscription “ROMANIA”, the face value of "10 LEI", the coat of arms of Romania and the year of issue, 2009; in the lower part, an image taken from an original depiction of a teacher addressing a group of students.

Reverse: the portrait of Bishop Petru Pavel Aron, his coat of arms and the inscriptions “1709” and “1764”; to the left, inscribed in an arc is the legend “PETRU PAVEL ARON”.

Each coin is housed in a transparent plastic capsule and is accompanied by a leaflet featuring an overview of the numismatic issue in Romanian, English and French. The leaflet comes with a certificate of authenticity bearing the signatures of both the Governor and the Head Cashier of the National Bank of Romania.

The coins are offered in presentation cases embossed with the NBR logo – BNR – in silver foil on the lid.

The numismatic issue comprises 500 coins.

The selling price is leu 180, excluding VAT and the cost of the presentation case.

The silver collector coins commemorating the 300th anniversary of the birth of Bishop Petru Pavel Aron will be put into circulation through the branches of the National Bank of Romania in Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Iaşi and Timişoara.
