NBR has decided to lower the policy rate by half of a percentage point

07.06.2004

The National Bank of Romania Board has considered the latest developments in disinflation and external accounts, as well as the future trends, and has decided to lower the policy rate by half of a percentage point.

For the period ahead, the National Bank of Romania will maintain the cautious monetary policy stance, closely in line with the developments in aggregate demand and imports, still growing at a rapid pace, which is likely to put at risk disinflation and external accounts.

The National Bank of Romania Board underscores its resolve to keep monetary policy on course to meet the inflation target of 9 percent for end-2004 and 6 percent for end-2005.
