Withdrawal from circulation of the ROL 10,000 banknote - year of issue 1999 - and ROL 50,000 banknote - year of issue 1996

Between 16 December 2002 - 31 March 2003, the ROL 10,000 banknote - year of issue 1999 and ROL 50,000 banknote - year of issue 1996 that are to be withdrawn, will be accepted only by banks from individuals, economic agents and other institutions, for payment or exchange. Commercial banks shall not put them again into circulation, but deposit them with the National Bank of Romania.
After 31 March 2003 the above mentioned banknotes cease to be legal tender and may not be used as legal means of payment.
Between 1 April and 30 June 2003, the ROL 10,000 banknotes - 1999 issue and ROL 50,000 - 1996 issue, which ceased to be legal tender, may be exchanged by the National Bank of Romania branches only.
