The annual meeting of the Advisory Committee of the Regional UNPD Office for Europe and the CIS (former Soviet Union) countries began in New York on Thursday. Mr. Isărescu, Governor of the NBR, who participated in the New York session, was elected as a member of the Advisory Committee, a genuine wise men council. The agenda of the meeting included topical issues such as economic and social development, and environment protection in emerging market countries. The meeting mirrors the UNPD's keen interest in speeding up reforms in Eastern Europe and the CIS countries. The proceedings ended Friday, 4 October.
