The Bank Deposit Guarantee Fund informs the public of the following:
The ceiling guaranteed by the Fund on deposits held by individuals with banks according to the legislation in force is raised from ROL 88,505,000 to ROL 100,453,000 per depositor following indexation with the consumer price index in December 2001 compared with June 2001. The ceiling was computed pursuant to the provisions of Art. 5, paragraph 2 of Ordinance No. 39/1996 issued by the Government of Romania on the establishment and operation of the Bank Deposit Guarantee Fund, as approved and added by Law No. 88/1997 subsequently amended and supplemented.
The new ceiling shows the level of the compensation paid out by the Fund, according to the above-mentioned legal provisions, on individuals' deposits with banks facing insolvency during the first half of 2002.
