Press release of Bank Deposit Guarantee Fund

The Bank Deposit Guarantee Fund informs the public of the following:
Pursuant to the provisions of Art., 5 par. 2, of Government Ordinance No. 39/1996 on the establishment and operation of the Bank Deposit Guarantee Fund, approved by Law No.88/1997, as amended and supplemented, the ceiling up to which the Fund guarantees deposits held by natural persons with banks subject to the above mentioned legal provisions shall be raised from lei 77,095,000 per depositor to lei 88,505,000 per depositor, following the indexation with the consumer price index in June 2001, compared to December 2000.
The new ceiling shows the level of compensation by the Fund for individuals' deposits with banks, that cannot be paid out during the second half of 2001 according to the above mentioned legal provisions.
