One step closer to the Euro zone
25.05.2001
Mr. Mugur Isărescu, Governor of the National Bank of Romania and Vice-president of the Club of Governors of central banks from the Balkans, the Black Sea area and Central Asia, is participating in the Club's meeting in Athens. During the debates, a particularly interesting issue was the analysis of the measures adopted by Greece for integration into the Eurosystem. The participants were presented the difficulties that this country had had to overcome during the integration process, as well as the results it had obtained through the acceptance of the Drachma in the Eurosystem and the acceptance of Greece as a member of the European Central Bank.
The experience of Greece is extremely helpful to Romania, taking into account that the problems Greece had faced are present in the economies of the accession countries.
