Numismatic issue - a silver coin dedicated to the 135th anniversary of the Romanian Academy

Starting 2 April 2001, the National Bank of Romania will put into circulation a silver coin dedicated to "the 135th anniversary of the Romanian Academy".

Characteristics:

  • type of metal: silver;
  • fineness: 999/1000;
  • quality: proof;
  • weight: 31.103 gr.;
  • diameter: 37 mm;
  • edge: flat;
  • year of issue: 2001.

Coin Description:

Obverse: the bust of Minerva - Romanian Academy's emblem - the Goddess of Wisdom, protector of fine arts, science etc, wearing a helmet. A rich adornment separates the image of the goddess from the anniversary years "1866 - 2001".

The inscriptions "ACADEMIA ROMANA" and "BUCURESTI" are placed on the edge of the coin and are separated by a rhombic design.

Reverse: Constantin Brancusi's masterpiece "The Wisdom of the Earth", symbol of wisdom, fertility and identity.

The inscriptions "BANCA NATIONALA A ROMANIEI" and "ACADEMIEI ROMANE LA 135 DE ANI" are circularly engraved on the edge of the reverse, separated by rhombic designs.

Mintage: 1,000 pieces for both domestic and international market.

The silver coins will be sold via NBR branches for ROL 500,000 a piece.

The silver coin is encapsulated in a transparent plastic case and is accompanied by a prospectus, as well as by an authentication certificate (in Romanian and English) signed by the Governor of the National Bank of Romania.

The cost of the capsule, the authentication certificate and the prospectus are included in the above sale price.

The coins may also be sold, at buyers' request, in cases bearing the NBR logo on the lid.

The design of this coin is protected by registration with the State Office of Trademarks (OSIM) in Romania. Forgery or counterfeiting of these coins is an infringement of the law and shall be punished accordingly.
