Press release of Bank Deposit Guarantee Fund

The Bank Deposit Guarantee Fund informs the public of the following:
In virtue of Art. 5, para.2 of Ordinance No.39/1996 issued by the Government of Romania on the establishment and functioning of the Bank Deposit Guarantee Fund, approved and modified by Law No.88/1997, with subsequent amendments, the ceiling on the Fund's guarantee for the deposits made by individuals with the banks subject to the above-mentioned legal provisions was revised from lei 65,169,000 per depositor to lei 77,095,000 per depositor, following the indexation based on the consumer price index recorded in December 2000 over June 2000.
The new ceiling represents the maximum amount of the compensation to be paid by the Fund for the individuals' bank deposits which become unavailable during the first semester of 2001, according to the above-mentioned legal provisions.
