NBR's International Reserves in April 2006

At end-April 2006, foreign exchange reserves of the National Bank of Romania came in at EUR 18,293 million.

The EUR 147.4 million increase in the month under review was due to the following:

  • EUR 557.7 million worth of inflows from incomes from international reserve management, change in the foreign-exchange reserve requirements of commercial banks, surrenders to official forex reserves, a.s.o.;
  • EUR 410.3 million worth of outflows consisting in principal repayments and interest payments on public and publicly guaranteed external debt, the change in foreign-exchange reserve requirements of commercial banks, bank commissions, a.s.o.

The gold stock stayed at 104.8 tonnes. Following the developments in the world price of gold, its value rose to EUR 1,712.5 million; as a result, the international reserves of the National Bank of Romania (foreign exchange and gold) topped EUR 20 billion.

By end-2006, payments due on public and publicly guaranteed external debt amount to EUR 946 million.
