NBR's International Reserves in May 2006

At end-May 2006, foreign exchange reserves of the National Bank of Romania stood at EUR 18,212.7 million.

The EUR 80.3 million decrease in the reported month was due to the following:

  • EUR 428.3 million worth of inflows from incomes from international reserve management, change in the foreign-exchange reserve requirements of commercial banks, surrenders to official forex reserves, a.s.o.;
  • EUR 508.6 million worth of outflows consisting in principal repayments and interest payments on public and publicly guaranteed external debt, the change in foreign-exchange reserve requirements of commercial banks, bank commissions, a.s.o.

The gold stock stayed at 104.8 tonnes. Following the developments in the world price of gold, its value declined to EUR 1,709.6 million. As a result, the international reserves of the National Bank of Romania (foreign exchange and gold) ran at more than EUR 19.92 billion.

By the end of 2006, payments due on public and publicly guaranteed external debt amount to EUR 674 million.
