Numismatic issue dedicated to 2025 – “The Cardinal Iuliu Hossu Year”

Should a numismatic issue fall short of the coins intended for online reservation, please be informed that items may be purchased directly from the counters of the NBR’s regional branches, without reservation, starting 7 July 2025.

 

As of 7 July 2025, the National Bank of Romania will put into circulation, for numismatic purposes, a coppered tombac coin to mark 2025 – “The Cardinal Iuliu Hossu Year”.

Obverse: a period image of the Greek-Catholic Cathedral in Gherla, the inscription “ROMANIA” in an arc, the year of issue “2025”, the coat of arms of Romania and the face value “1 LEU”.

Reverse: the portrait and name of Cardinal Iuliu Hossu, Bishop of Cluj-Gherla, senator by right and honorary member of the Romanian Academy.

The coppered tombac coins are housed in transparent plastic capsules and are embedded in presentation leaflets, being inserted in cardboard holders.

The maximum mintage is 5,000 coppered tombac coins.

The selling price for the coppered tombac coin, including the presentation leaflet and the cardboard holder, is lei 250.00, VAT excluded.

The coppered tombac coins to mark 2025 – “The Cardinal Iuliu Hossu Year” are legal tender on the territory of Romania.

The coins are put into circulation, for numismatic purposes, through the regional branches of the National Bank of Romania in Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Constanța, Craiova, Iași and Timișoara.
