Numismatic issue dedicated to 175 years since the Romanian Revolution of 1848

Pursuant to the provisions of Law No. 312/2004 on the Statute of the National Bank of Romania, as of 29 May 2023, the National Bank of Romania will put into circulation for numismatic purposes a gold coin and a silver coin to mark 175 years since the Romanian Revolution of 1848.

The coins have the following specifications:

Obverse of the gold coin: the Firefighter Heroes Monument in Bucharest, the coat of arms of Romania, the inscription “ROMANIA” in an arc, the face value “100 LEI” and the year of issue “2023”.

Obverse of the silver coin: the Firefighter Heroes Monument in Bucharest, the coat of arms of Romania, the inscription “ROMANIA” in an arc, the face value “10 LEI” and the year of issue “2023”.

Reverse common to gold and silver coins: the portraits and names of Romanian forty-eighters Avram Iancu, Nicolae Bălcescu and Mihail Kogălniceanu, and the inscriptions “REVOLUTIA ROMANA” and “1848”.

The gold and silver coins, housed in transparent plastic capsules, will be accompanied by leaflets featuring a presentation of the numismatic issue, as well as by certificates of authenticity, in Romanian, English and French. Each certificate of authenticity bears the signatures of the Governor and the Chief Cashier of the National Bank of Romania.

The maximum mintage of the gold coin is 1,000 coins, and the maximum mintage of the silver coin is 5,000 coins.

The selling price for the gold coin, including the leaflet and the certificate of authenticity, is lei 3,100.00, VAT excluded, and the selling price for the silver coin, including the leaflet and the certificate of authenticity, is lei 490.00, VAT excluded.

The gold and silver coins dedicated to 175 years since the Romanian Revolution of 1848 are legal tender on the territory of Romania.

The coins will be put into circulation, for numismatic purposes, through the regional branches of the National Bank of Romania in Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Constanța, Craiova, Iași and Timișoara.
