Numismatic issues dedicated to 150 years since the inauguration of the North Station

Should a numismatic issue fall short of the coins intended for online reservation, please be informed that items may be purchased directly from the counters of the NBR’s regional branches, without reservation, starting 3 October.


Pursuant to the provisions of Law No. 312/2004 on the Statute of the National Bank of Romania, as of 3 October 2022, the National Bank of Romania will put into circulation for numismatic purposes a mint set to mark 150 years since the inauguration of the North Station.

The mint set comprises Romanian coins in circulation with face value of: ban 1, bani 5, bani 10, bani 50, as well as a silver medal.

The silver medal has the following technical specifications:

Edge flat

Obverse: a present-day image of North Station in Bucharest, the inscription “GARA DE NORD BUCURESTI” and the year “2022”.

Reverse: the portrait and name of Prince Carol I, a period image of North Station in Bucharest, the inscription “150 ANI DE LA INAUGURAREA GARII DE NORD” and “1872”, the year when the railway station was inaugurated.

The mint set comes in the form of a leaflet, housed in a case, with its components inserted in specially designed slots. Both the silver medal and the coins in the mint set are struck under proof like quality conditions.

The maximum mintage of this numismatic issue is 5,000 sets.

The selling price for the mint set is lei 320.00, VAT excluded.

The mint set marking 150 years since the inauguration of the North Station will be put into circulation, for numismatic purposes, through the regional branches of the National Bank of Romania in Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Constanța, Craiova, Iași and Timișoara.
