Should a numismatic issue fall short of the coins intended for online reservation, please be informed that items may be purchased directly from the counters of the NBR’s regional branches, without reservation, starting November 8.


Pursuant to the provisions of Law No. 312/2004 on the Statute of the National Bank of Romania, as of 8 November 2021, the National Bank of Romania will put into circulation, for numismatic purposes, a silver coin to mark 100 years since the foundation of the National Opera in Bucharest.

The coins have the following characteristics:

Reverse

Obverse: the building of the National Opera in Bucharest, the inscription “ROMANIA” in an arc, the coat of arms of Romania, the face value “10 LEI” and the year of issue “2021”.

Reverse: the former building of the Lyric Theatre in Bucharest, where the opening performance of the National Opera took place, the portrait and name of George Enescu, who conducted the performance, the portrait and name of George Stephănescu, initiator and promoter of opera singing by Romanian artists, and the inscriptions “INFIINTAREA OPEREI NATIONALE DIN BUCURESTI”, “100 ANI” and “1921”, the year of the opening performance.

The silver coins, housed in transparent plastic capsules, will be accompanied by leaflets featuring a presentation of the numismatic issue in Romanian, English and French. Each leaflet comes with a certificate of authenticity bearing the signatures of the Governor and the Chief Cashier of the National Bank of Romania.

The maximum mintage of this numismatic issue is 5,000 silver coins.

The selling price for the silver coin, including the presentation leaflet, is lei 450.00, VAT excluded.

The silver coins dedicated to 100 years since the foundation of the National Opera in Bucharest are legal tender on the territory of Romania.

The silver coins will be put into circulation, for numismatic purposes, through the regional branches of the National Bank of Romania in Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Constanța, Craiova, Iaşi and Timişoara.
