Numismatic issues dedicated to 500 years since the letter of Neacșu of Câmpulung, the oldest extant document in Romanian

Should a numismatic issue fall short of the coins intended for online reservation, please be informed that items may be purchased directly from the counters of the NBR’s regional branches, without reservation, starting 13 September 2021.


Pursuant to the provisions of Law No. 312/2004 on the Statute of the National Bank of Romania, as of 13 September 2021, the National Bank of Romania will put into circulation for numismatic purposes a Silver coin dedicated to 500 years since the letter of Neacșu of Câmpulung, the oldest extant document in Romanian.

Reverse

Obverse: a depiction of the Town Hall in Brașov, the inscription “ROMANIA” in an arc, the face value “10 LEI”, the coat of arms of Romania and the year of issue “2021”.

Reverse: an excerpt of the Letter of Neacșu of Câmpulung, the circular inscription “SCRISOAREA LUI NEACSU DIN CAMPULUNG” and the year “1521” placed on a seal.

The silver coins, housed in transparent plastic capsules, will be accompanied by leaflets featuring a presentation of the numismatic issue in Romanian, English and French. Each leaflet comes with a certificate of authenticity bearing the signatures of the Governor and the Chief Cashier of the National Bank of Romania.

The maximum mintage of this numismatic issue is 1,000 silver coins.

The selling price for the silver coin, including the presentation leaflet, is lei 450.00, VAT excluded.

The silver coins dedicated to 500 years since the letter of Neacșu of Câmpulung, the oldest extant document in Romanianare legal tender on the territory of Romania.

The silver coins will be put into circulation, for numismatic purposes, through the regional branches of the National Bank of Romania in Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Constanța, Craiova, Iaşi and Timişoara.
