Press release on the withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the European Union (Brexit)

The withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the European Union (Brexit) was completed on 31 January 2020. The withdrawal agreement ratified by both parties came into force on 1 February 2020. According to the withdrawal agreement, in terms of the provision of financial services in Romania, the United Kingdom will continue to observe the EU acquis during the transition period until 31 December 2020; in this context, UK entities providing banking and payment services, as well as electronic money issuance services in Romania, through branches, agents or directly, will benefit – during the aforementioned period – from the single EU passport, in virtue of the authorisation granted by the competent authority in the UK.
