Numismatic issues dedicated to the anniversary of 30 years since the Romanian Revolution of December 1989

Pursuant to the provisions of Law No. 312/2004 on the Statute of the National Bank of Romania, as of 16 December 2019, the National Bank of Romania will put into circulation silver and brass collector coins for numismatic purposes, along with a brass circulation coin, dedicated to the anniversary of 30 years since the Romanian Revolution of December 1989.

The coins have the following technical characteristics:

Obverse of the silver coin: a young man making the sign of victory and holding the three coloured flag without coat of arms, a symbol of the Romanian Revolution of December 1989, the inscription “ROMANIA” in an arc, the coat of arms of Romania, the year of issue “2019” and the face value “10 LEI”.

Obverse of the brass collector coin: a young man making the sign of victory and holding the three-coloured flag without coat of arms, a symbol of the Romanian Revolution of December 1989, the inscription “ROMANIA” in an arc, the coat of arms of Romania, the year of issue “2019”, the face value “50 BANI”, and the letter “N” inscribed in a circle, as a distinctive sign of the collector coin.

Reverse common to all coins: a snapshot of the Romanian Revolution of December 1989, the circular inscription “REVOLUTIA ROMANA DIN DECEMBRIE” and the year when the events took place “1989”.

The mintage is:

  • 500 silver coins;
  • 50,000 brass collector coins;
  • 10,000,000 brass circulation coins.

The selling prices are as follows:

  • lei 355.00, VAT excluded, for the silver coin, including the certificate of authenticity;
  • lei 10.00, VAT excluded, for the brass collector coin with face value of bani 50.

The silver coins, the brass collector coins and the brass circulation coins, dedicated to the anniversary of 30 years since the Romanian Revolution of December 1989, are legal tender on the territory of Romania.

The silver and brass collector coins dedicated to the anniversary of 30 years since the Romanian Revolution of December 1989 will be put into circulation, for numismatic purposes, through the regional branches of the National Bank of Romania in Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Constanța, Craiova, Iaşi and Timişoara.

The brass circulation coins dedicated to anniversary of 30 years since the Romanian Revolution of December 1989 will be put into circulation through the regional branches of the National Bank of Romania in Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Constanța, Craiova, Iaşi and Timişoara, when making cash payments to credit institutions/the State Treasury.
