Pursuant to the provisions of Law No. 312/2004 on the Statute of the National Bank of Romania, as of 4 April 2016, the National Bank of Romania will put into circulation two coins: a gold collector coin and a brass commemorative circulation coin dedicated to the anniversary of 575 years since John Hunyadi became Voivode of Transylvania.

The gold collector coin

Obverse of the gold coin: Corvin Castle, the inscription “ROMANIA”, the face value “100 LEI”, the coat of arms of Romania and the year of issue “2016”.
The brass commemorative circulation coin

- Metal: brass Cu80Zn15Ni5
- Fineness: -
- Shape: round
- Diameter: 23.75 mm
- Weight: 6.1 g
- Rim: 1.9 mm
- Quality: uncirculated
- Edge: “ROMANIA” inscribed twice, with an asterisk separating the inscriptions
Obverse of the brass coin: Corvin Castle, the inscription “ROMANIA”, the face value “50 BANI”, the coat of arms of Romania and the year of issue “2016”.
Common reverse: the portrait of John Hunyadi, the inscription “IANCU DE HUNEDOARA” in an arc and the years when he was Voivode of Transylvania “1441-1456”.
Both coins are legal tender in Romania.
The mintage of this issue is:
- 250 gold collector coins;
- 1,000,000 brass commemorative circulation coins.
The gold collector coins are individually housed in transparent plastic capsules and are accompanied by leaflets featuring a presentation of the numismatic issue in Romanian, English and French. Each leaflet comes with a certificate of authenticity bearing the signatures of the Governor and the Chief Cashier of the National Bank of Romania.
The selling price of the gold coin, including the leaflet, is lei 1,650.00, VAT excluded.
The gold collector coins dedicated to the anniversary of 575 years since John Hunyadi became Voivode of Transylvania will be put into circulation through the branches of the National Bank of Romania in Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Iaşi and Timişoara.
The brass commemorative circulation coins will have the same technical characteristics as the bani 50 coins currently in circulation and will circulate in parallel with the latter.
The brass commemorative circulation coins dedicated to the anniversary of 575 years since John Hunyadi became Voivode of Transylvania will be issued into circulation through the branches of the National Bank of Romania in Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Iaşi and Timişoara when making cash payments to credit institutions/the State Treasury.
