On 26 November 2013, the National Bank of Romania (NBR) and the Ministry of National Education (MNE) signed a financial education cooperation protocol that encompasses all joint graduate and undergraduate projects and activities.
The document signed by Mugur Isărescu, the Governor of the National Bank of Romania, Remus Pricopie, the Minister of National Education and Mihnea Costoiu, the Minister Delegate for Higher Education, Scientific Research and Technological Development, sets the principles for a solid cooperation between the two institutions over the next four years.
The signing ceremony was part of a public event which reunited NBR Board members, MNE officials, as well as pupils, students and teachers, the target audience of the projects.
During the event, the NBR launched a new educational product - a DVD aimed at elementary and secondary school pupils, featuring short films on currency history, the life cycle and the security features of banknotes, as well as a virtual tour of the central bank. All videos have been approved by MNE experts. Furthermore, the students and the teachers attending the event visited the NBR Museum, where the Governor and the Minister of Education were happy to tell them more about the history of the Romanian “leu”.
