Lord Mayor,
Mr. Browne,
Your Excellency Ambassador Brummell,
Dear guests,
We are delighted to welcome you, Lord Mayor, at the National Bank of Romania. We extend a warm welcome to Mr. Jeremy Browne, Special Representative for the City of London to the European Union, as well as to our guests from this leading international financial center.
This is actually the second visit of a Right Honourable Lord Mayor of London at the National Bank of Romania. We were privileged to host The Right Honourable Lord Mayor of London Alderman Mr. Nick Anstee in 2010. We do hope this is becoming a wonderful tradition. A heartfelt welcome to His Excellency, Mr. Paul Brummell, the British Ambassador to Romania, as we have a long-lasting tradition in relation with Her Majesty’s Embassy here in Bucharest. For example, two weeks ago, in this hall, His Excellency, Ambassador Paul Brummell addressed the audience, on the subject of the Romanian economy and its progress after ten years as a member of the European Union. Two nights ago, also in this great hall, we launched Lord Mervyn King’s book, The End of Alchemy. Last, but not least, we were very proud to host, in the beautiful gardens of our Training Center, the Diamond Jubilee of Her Majesty Queen Elisabeth II in 2012 and to welcome His Royal Highness Prince of Wales. I am mentioning all these to stress the great relationship we have with the UK.
Ladies and gentlemen,
Today’s event will give the audience a closer glimpse to the “City of London as a Financial Centre after UK Exit from the EU”. The Right Honourable Lord Mayor of London Alderman, Dr. Andrew Parmley will say a few words about this topic.
Mr. Jeremy Browne, Special Representative for the City of London to the European Union will present in more detail the financial services and the future of the City of London after UK exit from the EU. He has kindly agreed to a short Q&A session.
Now, allow me to introduce today’s guests and speakers:
